Cathy Rodwell is a multidisciplinary artist, art therapist, counsellor, and educator based on Bribie Island, Queensland. Her practice sits at the intersection of creativity, emotional wellbeing, and connection to the natural world, informed by more than a decade of experience across education, counselling, therapeutic facilitation, and community wellbeing programs. Working across oil painting, drawing, and mixed media, Rodwell creates emotionally responsive works exploring healing, compassion, self-awareness, and human connection.
Her paintings often feature people, animals, and immersive natural environments rendered through luminous colour, layered brushwork, and intuitive mark-making. Rather than focusing on strict realism, her work balances recognisable imagery with emotional atmosphere, using colour and texture to communicate experiences that can be difficult to articulate through words alone.Grounded in the belief that art should be accessible, restorative, and deeply human, Rodwell draws influence from both classical painting techniques and contemporary expressive approaches. She is a recent graduate of advanced painting and conceptual development studies through the Milan Art Institute.
A vibrant solo exhibition exploring emotional expression, connection, and well-being through intuitive painting and colour.
Running from 16 May – 17 June 2026,this project was made possible by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund, provided through Regional Arts Australia, administered in Queensland by Flying Arts Alliance.
The exhibition features expressive paintings inspired by nature, emotion, memory, and moments of quiet reflection. Audiences can expect luminous colour, atmospheric scenes, wildlife, dreamlike landscapes, and emotionally resonant works that invite viewers to slow down and reconnect.
WORKSHOPS & EVENTS
Alongside the exhibition, Cathy will deliver a series of small-group creative well-being workshops designed to encourage relaxation, mindfulness, and self-expression through painting - no prior art experience required. Guided by simple prompts and intuitive techniques, the workshops offer a welcoming space for participants to explore creativity in a calm and supportive environment.
Cathy Rodwell’s practice combines her background in counselling, education, and art therapy with a belief in creativity as a tool for emotional connection and wellbeing. Through Letting Colours Speak, she invites audiences to experience art not just as something to look at, but something to feel.
