From Shadow to Light: A Journey Within by Dr Subrat Mishra presents a striking body of monochromatic drawings created using pencil and pastel on black paper. Through dramatic contrasts of darkness and light, the exhibition reflects on emotional struggle, inner awakening, and the quiet resilience of the human spirit.

The exhibition program includes a free Opening Event & Artist Talk on Monday 13 July, 5:30pm–7:30pm and Art Workshops on both Saturday 11 July & Sunday 12 July from 10:30am–12:30pm.  Tickets for workshops are $25 (including booking fees) and are essential.

A General Practitioner by profession and a self-taught artist by passion, Dr Mishra’s practice is deeply informed by his experiences in medicine and holistic care. Born in India and now based in Australia, his work bridges emotional storytelling, healing, and cross-cultural perspectives. The exhibition’s use of black paper becomes both material and metaphor - representing the unknown, emotional weight, and the subconscious - while carefully rendered light reveals moments of hope, tenderness, and connection.

Dr Mishra describes art as a therapeutic process.Since returning seriously to art after a long pause dedicated to career and family, Dr Mishra has become a regular exhibitor and award-winning artist across South East Queensland. His achievements include Show Champion at both the Caboolture Art Show and Redcliffe Art Show, as well as consecutive participation in the Archibald Prize over the past five years.

The exhibition invites audiences into a contemplative space where art becomes a way of processing emotion, reconnecting with self, and finding light within darkness.
