THREADS: a solo exhibition by Lauren Roberts
14 September – 14 October 2025
THREADS is a debut solo exhibition by emerging artist Lauren Roberts, who began publicly exhibiting in 2023. Recognised with a Highly Commended Award at the 2025 Matthew Flinders Art Prize this exhibition marks an exciting new chapter in her artistic career.
Her work is inspired by the organic lines found in nature - fluid, unpredictable, and ever-changing. These natural forms never repeat themselves, constantly evolving in response to their environment. The artist finds beauty in this impermanence and lets it guide their creative journey.
Never beginning with the intention of creating a specific piece, instead, allowing the lines - whether from nature or their thoughts - to lead the way. Each artwork emerges uniquely, shaped by the artists emotions, the materials, and the moment in which it is created. Though every piece looks and feels different, there is always a thread connecting them: a reference to nature’s resilience and its ongoing transformation. THREADS reflects this rhythm - an echo of the patterns that shift and adapt to survive.
THREADS traces the artistic transformation of Lauren’s practice - deeply rooted in the organic rhythms of nature and the intuitive flow of emotion. Beginning with the stark simplicity of black ink on white paper, Lauren’s work has gradually evolved to incorporate colour in more considered and delicate ways - primarily using coloured paper and pen. This shift has added a new layer of depth to her work, complementing her ongoing exploration of texture and layered mediums. including water-soluble graphite, Inktense pigments, and acrylics. The integration of these elements reflects a thoughtful expansion of her visual language, where each material choice contributes to the overall narrative.
Each piece in this exhibition reflects change - both in the materials used and the artist’s internal landscape. Guided not by fixed outcomes but by instinct and feeling, Lauren allows each line and mark to unfold naturally, echoing the unpredictable beauty of the natural world.
Through this body of work, viewers are invited to witness the evolution of an artist embracing colour, complexity, and the freedom of process.
THREADS is a celebration of growth, resilience, and the quiet power of transformation.
